Every month-end looked the same, so we built Finday.

How Finday started, what we learned the hard way, and what we are working on next.

Chapter 1The problem

Finance work arrived in pieces.

In the businesses we work with, a month of finance work used to look like this. Receipts arrived as photos in a WhatsApp group. Invoices sat in an email inbox. The bank statement was a PDF someone downloaded at month-end.

Before a single journal could be posted, someone had to collect all of it, type it into a spreadsheet and chase whatever was missing. The close slid into the next month, the tax return was put together close to the deadline, and the owner learned how the month went long after it had ended.

Where one month's paperwork lived
  • Receipt photos in a group chat
  • Invoices in an inbox
  • Bank statements as PDFs
  • One spreadsheet everyone typed into

Chapter 2What we learned

Reading the receipt is the easy part.

At first we treated this as a reading problem. Models are good at reading: they can pull the vendor, the date, the amount and the VAT off a crumpled receipt photo. But a correct reading can still produce a wrong journal.

Take a Kopi Gayo receipt for Rp 4,250,000. For a café it is raw material. For a consulting firm it is client entertainment. Which account it goes to, how the tax is treated and who has to approve it depend on the company: its chart of accounts, its vendors, its approval rules and its tax status.

So the company's context comes first. Before Finny drafts anything, she works from that company's own records and rules. The second lesson was about trust: finance work needs someone who answers for the result. That is why every draft is checked by a finance expert on our team, and nothing is posted until you approve it.

Chapter 3What we built

We built around the way documents already move.

We did not ask anyone to change apps. You send documents on WhatsApp or drop them in Google Drive, as before. Finny files them, logs them in Google Sheets and drafts the journal in your ERP (Jurnal, Odoo or Xero), or in the Finday ledger if you do not have one.

From there the draft waits for approval. Bank statements are matched against the ledger line by line, and the differences go to your finance expert. The monthly VAT return (SPT Masa PPN) is prepared from the same books, checked by a tax specialist and filed through Coretax once you approve. Each step records who prepared it, who checked it and who approved it.

One month, step by step
  1. Documents in
  2. Filed and logged
  3. Journal drafted
  4. Your approval
  5. Bank reconciled
  6. Filed in Coretax

Chapter 4Today

What a month looks like now.

Finday has served more than 150 clients, and we have customers in 4 countries. They reach Finny on WhatsApp, Telegram and the web.

There are two ways to use Finday. With the monthly services, our team does your accounting (bank reconciliation included), tax and payroll. If you have your own finance staff, you can use Finday Software, or DocVision on its own to read invoices and receipts into data.

Finday is connected to Coretax, DJP's tax system, so a monthly return runs from your books to the BPE receipt. Owners and finance managers approve on desktop or phone, and payments out and bank feeds in run through the same flow. Finny still does not work alone: our accountants and tax specialists check her drafts before they reach you.

Chapter 5What's next

They build the brain. We build the workplace.

Models keep getting better, and we do not need to build our own to keep up. Our job is the workplace around the model: your company's records, the approval rules, the audit trail, the connections to WhatsApp, your bank and Coretax, and the people who answer for the result.

That is where our next work goes. More of the month gets handled inside WhatsApp and the Finday web app you can install on your phone. There will be more ways to plug in your own model or agent over MCP or API (GPT, Gemini, Claude, Qwen, DeepSeek and Kimi already work). We are also building reporting that shows owners how the month is going before it ends.
