Request time off
A time off request goes to the approver, with the leave balance shown.
Before you start
- An active employee profile.
- Leave types and balances set up by HR, see the tutorial Set up leave types, balances and overtime types.
- A Time off approval route.
Steps
Step 1: Open Time Off
On Home, under My essentials, choose Time Off. Your Available leave shows at the top. Click Request time off.

Step 2: Choose the type and dates
Choose Single day or Multiple days, then the Leave type. Finday shows the available balance. Fill in the Date and Duration, that is Full day, 1st half or 2nd half, or the Start date and End date for several days.

Step 3: Add the reason and attachments
Fill in the Reason so the approver has context. If needed, attach a supporting document such as a doctor's note, as PNG, JPG, WebP or PDF.

Step 4: Submit the request
Click Submit request. The request detail opens with the status Pending.

When you are done
- The request is Pending until the approver decides. While it is pending, you can click Cancel request.
- The balance is checked again at approval. Approved unpaid leave reduces pay in that month's payroll.
Common problems
A message says No approval chain configured
The Time off approval route doesn't exist yet. HR is notified. Ask HR to create it in Employee › Approval Routes.
A message says No leave balance is configured
The balance for that leave type isn't set. Ask HR to fill it in the Balances tab.
A message says Insufficient leave balance or overlaps
The balance is too low, or the dates overlap another pending or approved time off. Change the dates or the leave type.
Something still unclear?
